Disposable Nappies, and other accessories are a huge waste of resources and cause much unecessary pollution, both on land and in waterways. Environmentally friendly, biodegradable and re-usable Eco-Nappies provide a solution to this heinous problem.

Darebin Council Nappy Trial

Is the environmental impact from using disposable nappies greater than using reusable cloth nappies? This is an opporunity to find out.

We are conducting a local cloth versus disposable nappy trial to assess the following:

• Performance
• Cost
• Ease Of Use
• Convenience
• Impact On The Environment

Meaghan, a mum in Northcote said, "To say that 25 washable nappies are no better for our planet than 4,000 non-biodegradable plastic coated nappies goes against all common sense! Thats why I have decided to organise a local nappy trial to verify the information and options". With the support from Darebin Council and the Environment Shop, the Darebin Nappy Trial has the following aims:

• Provide a balanced picture of the cost of using disposable nappies and cloth nappies by quantifying the resources used in both options.
• Give new parents the opportunity to try modern cloth nappies, record their feedback and experiences.
• Communicated the nappy options and results to other new parents.

Criteria For Participants

1. Live in the City of Darebin.

2. Currently using disposables full time on a child younger than one year old.

3. Be prepared to complete 2 questionnaires.

a. Pre nappy trial audit (ie using disposables) assessing key elements: cost, time, leakage, water.

b. Nappy trial audit, assessing key elements: cost, time, leakage, water.

4. Will allow the results and a photo of your child to be published in newspapers and magazines.

5. Be happy to sell 20 efficient light globes to your community (light globes are sponsored be the Darebin Council)
