A NATURAL BYPRODUCT OF THE WHEAT HARVEST
Historians theorize the first straws were cut from dried wheat shafts and they were named accordingly.
In the past, the stalks of wheat were seen as a waste product and often burnt. This is a contributor to greenhouse gases and climate change. We repurpose the wheat stalks to make a 100% Natural, sustainable, home compostable and gluten-free drinking straw.WHEAT LIFE CYCLE
Raw straw buys wheat straw from local Chinese farmers for a fair price. The straws are washed and dried twice before being packaged into boxes ready for use.
We currently buy our wheat from China as they are the biggest producer of wheat in the world. However, we’re looking to source wheat locally here in Australia.
Paper Drinking StrawsWHY PAPER?
When you have finished with your paper straw, you can toss it in the compost pile instead of the bin. There, it will break down naturally, instead of creating more waste to landfill. Normally, paper straws take 1-2 months to compost. Home composting makes great organic matter to feed to your veggies and reduces your carbon footprint too.
Raw Paper Straws are made from 3 ply premium grade paper sourced from managed plantations and are carbon neutral, recyclable, commercially and home compostable.
Bamboo Drinking Straws
WHY BAMBOO?The most impactful reason for bamboo drinking straws is for the sake of the planet and future generations. The ABC’s War on Waste team has estimated that 10 million plastic straws a day is not unfeasible for Australian straw usage, and may even be an underestimation.
Bamboo straws are better when it comes to your health. When you use plastic straws for hot beverages like tea, cocoa, and coffee, toxins can leach from the plastic and PLA (Polylactic Acid) straws and enter your body.
Bamboo straws stay the same temperature in hot or cold drinks. They feel good to use and are dishwasher safe.
Using a natural, organic straw made from bamboo eliminates the potential for ingesting chemicals.
ARE BAMBOO STRAWS SAFE?Bamboo straws are safe when compared to glass and stainless steel, which are other favourite materials for reusable drinking straws.*
Because bamboo is a 100% natural material, it will eventually wear out, even when well cared-for.
Raw bamboo straws are non-toxic and free from harmful substances. Safe for people, safe for the environment. Bamboo doesn’t leave a toxic residue when it breaks down.
When your bamboo straw is worn out, you can toss it in the compost pile or dig it into your garden
There it will break down naturally, instead of creating more landfill.

Our straws are harvested by hand, dried in the sun, cut to size using a hand grinder then polished and washed.
ETHICALLY SOURCED BAMBOO
Our straws are sourced from small family businesses. We respect our vendors by paying on time and utilising fair buying practices. We respect their community by being environmentally responsible, showing concern and giving back as it sees fit.
CARE & MAINTENANCEBamboo is a natural product. Included in our 10 pack of straws is a straw cleaner and a drawstring pouch. The bamboo straws are reusable. They can go in the dishwasher to clean. If they are being used for smoothies give them a clean inside with the coconut fibre straw cleaner before washing in the dishwasher. To disinfect, boil in water and a white vinegar solution, 20 parts water to 1 part vinegar, for 20 minutes. Leave your straws to dry naturally.
When they are looking tired your bamboo straw can go in the compost bin or be dug into the garden to degrade naturally into clean organic matter.
Please be careful. A person may suffer injury from the straw if they engage in activities unrelated to drinking, such as running or jumping, while using the straw. Please wash before use.
