Soapberries are the fruit of a Himalayan tree, and are a natural alternative to laundry powders and liquids. Although they are called nuts they're actually the dried fruit of the tree. The berries contain a substance called saponin, which is a natural soap. Saponin works in the same way as conventional soaps to remove dirt from clothes, yet don't pollute our waterways with chemical, soapy residues.
